The Only Patterned Release Fertilizer

A step beyond traditional controlled release fertilizers

It’s true. Many controlled release fertilizer prills contain N-P-K. What makes an Osmocote® prill a Plus is that it also contains six micronutrients and magnesium.

What takes Osmocote® Plus a step beyond controlled release fertilizers is Scotts Patterned Nutrient Release Technology™. With this next generation technology, your plants are fed what they need…when they need it.

The Osmocote Plus difference: patterned release of nutrients that matches the feeding habits of plants throughout the growth cycle.

The overriding advantage to you: Osmocote Plus is one of the surest, most efficient and convenient ways to provide complete nutrition for all of your plants.

Comparing Controlled Release and Patterned Release Fertilizers.

To understand why Osmocote Plus Patterned Release Fertilizers (PRF) are a step beyond controlled release fertilizers let‘s do a little ground work.

Temperature. Moisture. Release.

Temperature. Moisture. Release.

An Osmocote Plus prill contains N-P-K, magnesium and micronutrients. Water vapor is absorbed into the prill through the patented, polymer coating and dissolves the fertilizer inside. The release of fertilizer is primarily controlled by temperature. When it’s warm and plants are in active growth, the coating expands allowing more fertilizer to be released. When it’s cold, less fertilizer is released.

Thickness. Speed. Longevity.

Thickness. Speed. Longevity.

There are four types of homogeneous Osmocote Plus prills, differentiated by coating thickness.

The thickness of the coating—along with temperature—not only controls when nutrients are released, but the longevity as well; the thinner the coating, the faster the release; the thicker the coating, the slower the release and the longer they will last.

Habits. Patterns. Efficiency.

Controlled release fertilizers are designed to feed plants at a consistent rate throughout the growth cycle. Plants however don’t all feed at the same rate. Some plants feed more heavily early in the growth cycle, while others feed more heavily later. The step beyond is that Osmocote Plus Patterned Release Fertilizers (PRF) make it possible for you to more efficiently coordinate the delivery of nutrients with the specific feeding habits of your plants.

Scotts Patterned Nutirent Release Technology

Scotts Patterned Nutrient Release Technology

This 3rd Generation technology results from more than a decade of research and development. It synchronizes the release of plant nutrition with plant demand. Simply explained, the technology involves the formulation of four homogeneous Osmocote Plus prill types of varying thicknesses to create three nutrient release patterns. Patterns are available in longevities from 3 to 14 months to correspond with the feeding habits of plants.
